Este documental se puede dividir en tres partes: los programas de la radio
La Colifata; el viaje a Europa, donde la idea de la radio fue tomada como
ejemplo y, por último, la presentación en vivo de los colifatos junto a Manu
Chao en el año 2005. Con esta excusa, se nos da una inesperada mirada
de la “locura”, diferente a lo que se suele entender como tal. La sentimos
más cercana, los límites del hospital se desdibujan. Como dice uno de los
pacientes: “No se olviden que el loquero está abierto para todos”.

This documentary film can be divided into three parts: first, the radio
shows entirely produced by patients at neuropsychiatric hospital “Jose T.
Borda” in Buenos Aires; second, the trip to Europe, where the project was
considered as an example to follow; and finally, the live show performed
by the patients with musician Manu Chao in 2005. LT 22 Radio La Colifata
offers an unexpected, original and unusual point of view regarding
“madness”, by blurring the limits of the hospital. As one of the patients
points out: “Do not forget the funny farm welcomes everybody”.

Adaptación musical animada de la gesta india Ramayana, que cuenta
la historia de amor entre el rey-dios Rama y la deidad Sita, y es
narrada por tres singulares personajes que reconstruyen y revisan los
significados de la leyenda y el rol de la mujer cuando se somete al amor
y se pone en duda su virtud. La película alterna esta mítica historia con
la de la propia directora, cuyo novio la abandona a través de un correo
electrónico.
Ambos relatos de (des)amor diseñan un contrapunto que mediante una
banda sonora de la década del ‘20 en ritmo de jazz, permite conectar
a dos mujeres entre la tragedia y la comedia a través del tiempo y los
diferentes tipos de animación. Sita… combina animales que quedan
azules de tanta pena de amor, con un corazón literalmente hecho añicos
en un departamento de Nueva York.

This animated musical interpretation of India’s epic Ramayana tells
the love story of Prince Rama and goddess Sita. Animator Nina Paley’s
independent film is narrated by three Indian shadow puppets that
review and reconstruct the meaning of ancient legends and women’s
role when Sita’s love and virtue are put through many tests. The film
also portrays a contemporary parallel with Paley’s own life when her
boyfriend dumps her by email.
The film intersperses these love and indifferences stories through a
1920s jazz soundtrack, linking these women in parallel narratives
amid both ancient tragedy and modern comedy in different styles of
animation. Sita sings the blues casts animals that go through the pain
of love, and a heart that is literally smashed to smithereens in a New
York department.
